Prince George’s County Businesses Get New Opportunity to Put AI to Work

Small and medium sized businesses in Prince George’s County have a new opportunity to explore how artificial intelligence can be used to improve everyday business operations.
The Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation has partnered with Nub8 and Amazon Web Services to launch Accelerate AI, a program designed to help local businesses identify and implement practical artificial intelligence and cloud based solutions.
According to the Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation, the program is aimed at businesses that know technology could help their operations but may not know which tools to use or how to put them into place.
The program is targeting small and medium sized businesses located in Prince George’s County that are in good standing and have a specific business need that could potentially be addressed through technology.
Several types of solutions are available through the program.
One is an AI assistant that can interact with customers through a company's website, app or social media channels. The system can answer questions and capture leads around the clock.
Another option is Customer 360, which is designed to organize customer information so businesses can better understand and engage with their customers.
Businesses that spend a significant amount of time working with documents can also explore Intelligent Document Processing. The technology is designed to help businesses organize, extract and process information from documents while reducing some manual work.
There is also a Sales and Inventory Forecasting solution that can help businesses use existing information to better understand sales activity, inventory needs and customer demand.
One of the more important parts of the program is that business owners do not have to determine which solution they need before applying.
The program includes an assessment process that helps identify the technology that best matches the business's needs.
The first cohort is scheduled to begin in October, with additional cohorts expected approximately every month. Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis.
AWS is supporting implementation of eligible AI and cloud solutions for participating businesses. The program also includes up to $300 in AWS credits to help businesses begin using their implemented technology without an immediate technology cost.
For local business owners, the program provides an opportunity to explore technology based on a specific business problem rather than simply adopting AI because it is becoming popular.
A restaurant could potentially look at technology for customer service. A professional services company could examine document processing. A retailer could explore forecasting tools. Another business might benefit from an AI assistant that can respond to customers when employees are unavailable.
The goal is to connect technology to an actual business need.
As more companies adopt artificial intelligence, programs like Accelerate AI could give smaller businesses access to resources that may otherwise be difficult to afford or implement.
